In my work as a massage therapist, I meet people where they are. The work is physical. The work is emotional. My clients lead the session. Don’t like something? I’ll pivot. Too much pressure? I’ll ease up. Ticklish feet but still want them worked on? I’ll be a little more firm.
Over the years, I have realized that while massage is one way I do my work, it is not the only way. What I love most is creating spaces where people can simply be themselves.
Sometimes that space is on the massage table. Other times it happens doing a craft project, at a community event, during a conversation about grief, or in a virtual gathering with people who may never meet in person.
The thread running through it all is the same. I like to create containers.
I think we all secretly (or not so secretly) love a good container.
Tupperware never really went out of style. A sturdy tote bag? Gold. Those silicone collapsible containers? Brilliant. Glass nesting bowls with matching lids? Be still my heart.
We like things that hold things.
Perhaps it is because they give us a sense of order. Or they help us keep track of what’s important. Maybe they make us feel like we have our shit together...even if the tote is completely full of random receipts, snacks, charging cords, and that one thing we’ve been looking for all week.
I also like creating connections.
Connections with ourselves. With one another. With ideas. Sometimes with complete strangers who discover they have more in common than they ever expected.
The best part is when these two things happen at the same time: A container that becomes a place of connection. This space is an extension of that.
Here you’ll find reflections, stories, everyday observations, updates, and invitations to gather. Some posts may make you think. Some may make you laugh. Others may introduce you to new ideas or new people. And many will be invitations to connect—with yourself or your community.
If you’re wondering where to begin:
*Field Notes is a growing collection of stories, observations, and moments that have made me pause, wonder, or see the world a little differently.
*Upcoming Events is a living page that I update regularly with workshops, pop-ups, gatherings, virtual offerings, and other ways we can connect.
There’s no right place to start. Browse. Wander. Read what catches your eye. Skip what doesn’t.
Come on in!
(I’m giving you a hug in my head. A completely non-creepy one, of course.)
